BEST FOUR-BERTH Swift Challenger 530
Following a dramatic make-over for the 2006 season, the Swift Group’s
new Challengers are brimming with showroom appeal, with their distinctive dark wood
finish, pale furnishings and higher spec.Among them is a four-berth
side-dinette model that’s full of new, practical features, making
a winning formula for both young families and couples seeking a
sense of luxury at a sensible price.
All Challengers have thoughtfully positioned switches immediately
above the doorway. But in the 530, Swift has gone a step further,
moving circuit breakers and individual electrical switches up
to waist-level in the cupboard opposite the doorway, so you don’t
need to get down on your hands and knees to reach them.
Storage in the 530 is excellent. In the washroom,a large wardrobe,
with shelves and drawers, takes up the entire nearside wall. And thanks
to the application of the Swift Group’s spaceframe construction,
the entire fronts of the bed boxes drop down to give access to their
contents. Pull-out wire racks sit in the cupboard between the frontand
side-dinettes, along with a bottle drawer, allowing more
overhead lockers to be used for clothes storage. Drawers are
self-closing, which means no force is required to use them, thus
minimising the risk of damage.
The 530’s spec reflects this van’s practicality. A microwave,an
MP3/CD/DVD player, and a Status directional aerial come as standard,
along with a generous 107-litre fridge with a digital read-out.And
all this comes for just £350 more than last year.
This year’s 530 has also been slightly lengthened to offer more
living space. This is most obvious in the kitchen, whose workspace is
enormous even before you put away the draining board. It helps
make meal preparation relaxed and enjoyable for the cook.
Overall, the 530’s careful and attractive design guarantees
comfortable and stylish living at a price that won’t break the bank.
