  • What is difference between a campervan and motorhome?

While campervans and motorhomes share some similarities, a campervan is typically a smaller, more compact vehicle that is based on a standard van. A motorhome, on the other hand, is typically a larger vehicle and are built by fitting a coach-built living space on the back of a chassis, and they typically include more amenities and features than a campervan.

The choice between a campervan and motorhome ultimately depends on your personal preferences, budget, and travel needs.

  • Is it legal to live in a campervan full-time?

Overall, while it is generally legal to live in a campervan full time in the UK, it's important to carefully consider your options and obtain the appropriate permissions.

Your vehicle will require a valid MOT and comply with relevant laws and regulations related to parking, waste disposal, and safety.

  • Can you drive a campervan on a normal licence?

In the UK, you can drive a campervan on a normal driving licence as long as the vehicle does not exceed 3.5 tonnes and is designed to carry no more than 8 passengers (including the driver), then it can be driven on a standard Category B driving license.

Additionally, if you are planning to tow a trailer or caravan behind your camper-van, there may be additional restrictions and requirements based on the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer.

  • Do campervans have toilets on-board?

Many campervans are equipped with toilets, but size, layout, and the preferences of the owner or manufacturer dictate if the vehicle will have this feature. The Swift Monza pop-top campervan has a Dometic portable 972 toilet in a storage space, whilst the Swift Trekker pop-top campervan and Swift Carrera has an on-board toilet with electric flush.

  • Is Tax cheaper on a campervan?

In the UK, the tax rate for a campervan is usually cheaper than a standard car or van because they are classified as "motor caravans" by the DVLA, and are subject to a different tax rate.

The tax rate is based on the vehicle's weight and emissions, and if you are using your campervan for commercial purposes or have modified it extensively, there may be additional tax and insurance requirements.

  • Are campervans and panel vans exempt to a MOT test?

All campervans and panel vans, must undergo an annual MOT test once they are more than three years old. It's important to keep your motorhome well-maintained and serviced throughout the year to help ensure that it passes its MOT test. Failing to have a valid MOT certificate can result in a fine, penalty points on your license, and even prosecution in some cases.

  • Are campervans easy to drive?

The ease of driving a campervan depends on various factors, including the vehicle's size, your driving experience, and your comfort level. They are generally easier to drive over larger motorhomes, but with practice and confidence, many people find that driving a campervan becomes more comfortable over time.
